Summer: Um....What?

So I guess there's this thing called summer. Maybe you've heard of it? It's when the kids aren't in school, the weather is really nice, people do a lot of traveling and reading. There's lots of grilled food and refreshing cocktails. Many of which are sipped on beaches....

I mean, this is what I hear. I wouldn't really know.

We have had nice weather (for the most part), the kids haven't been in school, I've had a few delicious cocktails and my husband has grilled meat like four times.

Summer is normally pretty low key for us, and this year has been even moreso, mainly due to Mark's healing foot.

Also? It's like I blinked and it's nearly September! I genuinely do not know how this happened.

I don't know how much I can go on about my family's boring summer, but it's Elaine's Old School Blogging topic (yay, it's back!) for this month, so I'm gonna give it a shot.

What was your favorite thing you did alone this summer? I didn't sleep in every day that my kids were away visiting my mom just so I could get up in a quiet house and drink some coffee in peace.

What was your favorite thing you did as a family this summer? All of our movie nights, letting the kids stay up way later than previous summers. Also, not totally as a family, but how the kids would "camp out" downstairs with Mark some nights when he was staying off his foot and not coming upstairs to sleep.

What books did you read this summer? Well....because of blogging and reading other blogs I tend to read books very sporadically. There was no sporadic this summer. There really should have been though, especially when I was going to dialysis with Mark. I'm a slacker.

Wait! I did read The Fault in Our Stars a couple weeks before the movie came out (and wrote a post about how it gave me all the feels), which was the beginning of summer, so does that count?

What do you WISH you had done this summer? Obviously, I wish I had done some reading. I still wish (forever and ever, Amen) that I could let myself just sit on my ass and relax more.

What movies did you see this summer (if any)? Like I said, we've watched lots of movies, but they were mostly repeats, if you will. The only new movie I've seen is The Fault in Our Stars. #swoon

Where did you travel this summer? I did not travel anywhere. My kids, on the other hand, did get to spend a week with my mom and step-dad in Lake Tahoe!

What was your favorite treat (as in dessert) this summer? Starbucks' Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino®. I might have said strawberry shortcake, if I had gotten any. I only live in a town that has a STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL every June, but I'm not bitter or anything.

What did you celebrate this summer? Camryn's 14th birthday, our 16th wedding anniversary and a lightening of our burdens.

Did you grow anything this summer? Weeds. I have decided that gardening is evil because of the weeds.

What is a favorite post (if you blog) that you wrote this summer? Since this is all about summer, I'll say "What Summer With Kids Looks Like".

What is a favorite photograph that you took this summer?

What do you want to do next summer? I don't know. Ask me again after the new year!

PS: Just a little heads-up that there won't be a View From Here post this week, but it will be back next week. And then....I will be wrapping up the series during September!
