It's all about people who are abso-freaking-lutely convinced some major global catastrophe resulting in the end of the world as we know it will befall us, and they want to be prepared.
Not prepared in the way that you or I might have a first aid kit or even a box in the garage that contains a radio, batteries, flashlights, canned foods and distilled water. We might feel "prepared" for your average natural disaster such as an earthquake or flood.
Not these people. They are going so much further than disaster preparedness.
We're talking about shelves stocked full of non-perishable foods and other supplies. Everything from beans to toilet paper, to seeds and weapons.

They also build special "alternate homes" they can go to when the shit hits the fan.
My question is: Why?
Why are these people so concerned with surviving an apocalyptic event? Why do they want to be left when everyone is gone? Why do they feel the need to take on this enormous endeavor?
Personally, I'd rather just go with everyone else. I would prefer to just accept fate.
If the world is ending....doncha think there might be a reason for that?
It's the circle of life, man.
And honestly, the people who are into this....let's just say I'm not sure I would want to be around in a world where they're the ones being the leaders.
So I guess you could say it's win-win. The apocalypse happens, I die, the preppers live, and they can all have their messed up, fight for survival world with all their like-minded friends.
I'm thinking they don't have anything else to worry about. Must be nice.
So...

I don't understand this mentality either. But it does seem like there are waaay too many people out there addicted to doom and gloom. They get some kind of high feeling miserable.
ReplyDeleteThinks a form of emo?
DeleteMy husband is fascinated by this show! He is a mid-level readiness kind of person, meaning he says we are set for 1 month of social anarchy but not set for world annihilation. He's on the federal disaster response team and they prepare for large scale disasters every month. I think that makes it hard for him to NOT prepare at home. He agrees, though and so do I - if it's the end of the world, we should all go.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good compromise to me!
DeleteIt must be an awful feeling to have to worry about an apocalyptic event all the time. Seriously, how can you enjoy life if you always have to be on the alert for something so big?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I think they're nuts. And I go with what you say: if we're all going to die, I want to die along. Because my life would mean nothing without my friends and family.
Oh I think they expect at least their family will survive too.
DeleteHmm. Maybe they're afraid they wouldn't die along with everyone else, so they want to be prepared. Maybe. I suppose. Could be.
ReplyDeleteWhat makes them so special?
DeleteI love that show... it's hilarious to see what kind of creations these people come up with.
ReplyDeleteObviously I've watched it, so there must be some entertainment value, right?
DeleteOh, yikes! I figure if anything that bad happens, we're doomed anyway, so I'm not going to waste time and money prepping for it!
ReplyDeletethis is what I'm saying!
DeleteI can't watch that show, it freaks me out! And I 110% agree with you. If it comes to that horror, do I really want to be around for it?
ReplyDeleteSo if you watch it, it makes you feel like you should be doing it too? Don't drink the koolaid!
DeleteIs that not some crazy shit or what? We watched it once, because I am all about reality shows...all of them. This lady spent a ton of money to buy this container to live in. It blew my mind. Who really has the time and money to do all of those things. No me. So trust me, I will be one of the first ones because my shelves are practically bare anyway. I figure that is something horrible happens it is just meant to be.
ReplyDeleteI'll be one of the first to have my brains eaten in a zombie apocalypse.
DeleteIt's really simple. The reason for the high level of preparedness is the children who potentially could be left helpless if the parents fail at surviving to protect and raise their little ones. Many parents have the inner fortitude to FIGHT and attempt to survive to, in turn, see their children thrive and find happiness in their own lives.
ReplyDeleteStarving to death amounts to an extraordinarily painful death. Those who throw up their arms and give up before the economy here in the US goes the way of Greece, Spain and Italy most likely do not understand what it is to die of hunger or starvation-related illness. The "oh well" attitude regarding recent global events and how they WILL affect us here in the States is pure ignorance of the thing we all call reality. But that's just my opinion...
I love that show! Those people are bananas. I don't think I want to be around either, if they're the ones running the show.
