You Can't Convince Me You Have All the Answers

I am the Queen of the Grey Area. I sit on the fence in the middle of the road.

This seems to be largely seen as a negative thing, but it's not that I don't have any personal convictions or strong opinions on anything. I have them, but you do too. Which one of us is right?

To me, seeing the grey areas and being a "middle of the road" kind of gal simply means that I am tolerant, open minded and less judgmental than someone who tends to be more extreme.

I'm not easily convinced that something is absolutely wrong or absolutely right.

I mean, any and all forms of abuse are wrong. Wrong, wrong, WRONG. I think we can all agree on that.

I could say stealing is wrong. But what if you steal food because you're starving and have no money?

Murder can sometimes be justified. "Aggravated", in self-defense or even out of mercy.

All that considered, I guess I'd have to say the one thing I'll never compromise on is....

That nobody has all the answers.

Not me, not you, not the President or the Pope.

There are too many unknowns. So many variables.

We can think something, have a belief in something or value ideals. But we simply cannot KNOW anything for absolute certainty.

I have faith in God, but do I know for sure that he exists?

If you don't believe in God, do you know for sure he doesn't exist?

I think life begins at birth. You think life begins at conception. Does either of us really know?

I value honesty, but can I ever be certain that someone is being honest with me?

We have feelings. Instincts. Common sense and logic, maybe. We form opinions and make decisions based on these intangible things. They are not written in stone.

And they CHANGE throughout the course of our lives based on our experiences!

So tell me, how? How can any one of us think we have the answers?

I say we can't, and that is something I am pretty sure I'll never compromise on.

This has been a Finish the Sentence Friday response.
