Mark and my Dad (Randy) are not just father-&-son-in-law.
They are really good friends, and have been from the start.
They are a lot alike.
What they say about a girl marrying a man similar to her father proved true in my case.
They both love motorcycles and great sounding, loud music.
I could maybe even say Mark married me for my Dad's speakers!
When we did our recent family photo shoot, my Dad met us at the park to check out what we were doing. Since he was there, I asked Jess to get a couple shots of the two of them.
The first picture is nice, but this second one just gets me.
You may not be able to see my Dad's eyes, but I know what's there.
He loves Mark very much. And I love that about him.
Not only does he love Mark, but he loves me and Mark together.
What we go through breaks my Dad's heart.
Sure, he can be all tough and matter-of-fact, "we'll deal with this too, hon."
But I know inside he's a big mushy ball of goo.
He can't fool me.
Probably because no matter how strong and steadfast I seem to be, I too am a big mushy ball of goo on the inside.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad too!
DeleteThat's really sweet. I married a guy similar to my dad.
ReplyDeleteIt's kinda weird, hu?
Deletethis really made me well up. sounds like you've got some amazing men in your life. :)
ReplyDeleteI really do! My step-dad is pretty awesome too. Love that guy!
DeleteYou are so blessed to have such wonderful men in you life. Thanks for sharing, it warms my heart :)
ReplyDeleteGlad to warm your heart.
DeleteHow sweet Jen, and incredibly lucky for your husband and father to have that kind of closeness.
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty cool.
DeleteImagine how good it makes me feel to KNOW my daughter is loved by her husband like I love her! How could I fail to love a guy that brings me that?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kindness, honey.
Love,
Dad
Awww, so sweet.
ReplyDeleteVery sweet pics...also i love the giant rooster.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what is up with that thing!
DeleteTheir relationship is a rare thing indeed. Both are so lucky to have each other! And you are lucky to have them!
ReplyDeleteLots of luck all around!
DeleteThose are such nice pics. Even if only on pictures, it is always good to see a good relationship between dad and son-in-law.
ReplyDeleteI'm very grateful for it.
DeleteJen, those photos are priceless! Lovely, thoughtful post as always. You have good taste in men:)
ReplyDeleteApparently I do! ;-)
DeleteAw, that's sweet, that your dad loves Mark like his own. That second picture is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteRight? I just know what my Dad is thinking in that one.
DeletePerfect picture. Doesn't need words at all. Nice, erin
ReplyDeleteWhat a great photo. You can really tell how much they care for each other. I married a man like my dad too. He's been the son my dad never had, and my dad has been the father my husband never had. :)
ReplyDeleteHow perfect is that?
DeleteFrom a dude's perspective, I could even see it in the first photo. I don't even know him, but I bet Mark said something funny out of the corner of his mouth to make your dad laugh. And the second photo is just teeming with pride from both men.
ReplyDeleteThe rooster even seems to approve.
Such a sweet story. I hope that my future husband (whoever he may be) will be able to have the same type of relationship with my father.
ReplyDeleteisn't it lovely (and sadly, too rare) when the people we love, love one another? beautiful
ReplyDeleteHow fortunate you are to have a dad you admire, and therefore a good role model for choosing your life partner. Very sweet post.
ReplyDeleteThat's so sweet,
ReplyDeleteit's wonderful that the two of them have such a great relaitionship.
Wonderful Jen!!
ReplyDeleteThe second picture literally is worth a thousand words! Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMy husband is close with my parents, too. Not like your hubby and your dad, but definitely close. By contrast, I'm not as close with my in-laws. They're just not warm, fuzzy, easy-to-talk-to people. I wish we had a more congenial relationship - I really do - but they make it difficult just by nature of being who they are. It makes our infrequent visits with them rather strained and uncomfortable. Those who share close relationships with their IL's should consider themselves very lucky. :)
it's so great to have a close relationship between your husband and family - the pictures really do capture their feelings. wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great relationship they have! You can read it all over their faces. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome. My husband lost his dad early in our marriage, and I know his relationship with my dad helps a little. I'm do glad you have this strength in your support network.
ReplyDeleteAww, *tears* I love this. It's so great that they don't just tolerate each other, that they don't just get along, but that they love each other. That is too cool. Love those pics!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that they share such a closeness!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely for all of you they have this bond! What great evidence in these photos.
ReplyDeleteIt is great that they get along so well. I think that is really important for everyone. I'm sure that it's so wonderful for your kids to see them like that. That is a great example for them.
